Studies from as early as 2013 indicated that suboxone may extensive dental side effects, but it wasn’t until 2022 that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public warning. If you or a loved one have taken suboxone and suffered from subsequent dental complications you may have a claim for compensation. According to Drug Watch, as of May 2024 there are already over 200 Suboxone lawsuits pending in the state of Ohio alone.

Suboxone lawsuits allege that the makers of the drug did not were aware or should have been aware that Suboxone use posed a risk to the user’s dental health. In either event the manufacturers failed to notify either consumers or medical providers of the risk. Because of this, users who have suffered from dental issues may be able to receive compensation to cover their medical bills as well as the adverse physical and psychological effects.

What is Suboxone?

Chemically suboxone is a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine itself is an opioid that physicians have used to decrease general opioid dependency and other withdrawal symptoms, as it lacks the serious side effects of other such products and decreases the pleasurable effects of opioids overall. Suboxone was introduced to the market in the early 2000’s, initially in tablet form that is dissolved under the tongue. However, in 2015 a film version of buprenorphine that could be placed inside the mouth against the cheek was also approved. Though suboxone also contains naloxone, it’s buprenorphine that has been linked with dental issues.

Suboxone maintains a low pH value, becoming acidic when dissolved in water. When the pH value of the mouth drops too low it can create conditions where the enamel of the teeth are weakened. Suboxone also has the potential to cause dry mouth in users, which can compound dental issues since saliva is necessary to lowering the mouths pH level and rinsing away bacteria. Until 2022 however, the drug label did not adequately reflect this.

To file a claim, you should first consult with an experienced Suboxone lawyer. An attorney can listen to the specific facts of your situation to determine whether you have a viable claim. If a lawyer does believe you have a case, they will help you move forward. The Oliver Bell Group is currently accepting cases regarding individuals who took suboxone and suffered dental problems such as cavities or extensive tooth decay.

If you meet the above, your lawyer will walk you through the next steps and help you complete any required paperwork and procedures before the filing deadline is up. Because there are time limits to file lawsuits related to bad drugs, we suggest consulting with a lawyer as soon as possible if you think you might be eligible. Due to the Michigan Statute of Limitations for product liability cases your time to file a Suboxone lawsuit could be running out. If you or a lover one took Suboxone before the 2022 label change and suffered ill effects of the drug you may have a case. Call or text us for a free consultation with the Oliver Bell Group.
