Charise Valentine, M.D.

Dr. Charise Valentine, M.D. is a Michigan physician who practiced in the Detroit metropolitan area. In April 2025, a federal jury convicted her of conspiracy to unlawfully distribute prescription opioids and 10 counts of illegal distribution of oxycodone and oxymorphone.

What Happened?

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Dr. Valentine was one of two primary physicians at the Orthopedic Medical Building involved in an illegal opioid distribution operation. Between November 2016 and July 2018, prosecutors said she issued more than 3,000 prescriptions for more than 200,000 opioid pills to people who did not have a legitimate medical need for the drugs.

The clinic reportedly operated on a cash-only basis, with patients paying between $200 and $500 per prescription. ClickOnDetroit reported that Valentine was sentenced to six years in federal prison following her conviction.

Michigan regulators had previously summarily suspended Valentine’s medical license in 2018. State records identify violations relating to controlled substances and the standard of care.
