What Happened?
Westland, a Villa Center was one of six Michigan nursing homes named in a federal and state investigation that resulted in a $4.5 million settlement in 2025. The settlement involved the facilities and their ownership companies and resolved allegations that the nursing homes accepted taxpayer funds while providing grossly substandard care.
The underlying whistleblower lawsuit alleged that the facilities failed to adequately staff the homes, prevent and treat infections, prevent falls, provide appropriate toileting and personal care, and prevent and treat pressure ulcers. Villa denied the allegations.
The settlement also included a five-year Corporate Integrity Agreement, providing for additional oversight and compliance requirements.
