Mark Scarlato

Mark Scarlato, P.T. is a former physical therapist who worked for Corewell Health in the Grand Rapids area. In 2025, he was charged with criminal sexual conduct after a patient reported that he sexually assaulted her during physical therapy sessions. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 3 to 15 years in prison.

What Happened?

According to court documents and local reporting, a Grand Rapids woman began physical therapy with Scarlato for a knee issue in early 2025. She reported that during several treatment sessions at a Corewell Health facility in Kentwood, Scarlato touched her inappropriately and performed treatment she did not initially understand to be inappropriate.

Corewell Health reported the allegations to Kentwood police after receiving a complaint and removed Scarlato from his position. He was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Investigators also discovered a prior 2010 complaint involving an allegation that Scarlato exposed himself to a patient in 2009. A 2011 disciplinary order limited his physical therapy license for two years, placed him on probation, and required community service.

In June 2026, Scarlato was sentenced to 3 to 15 years in prison following his conviction for sexual assault of a patient.
