Xeljanz and Xeljanz XR are popular prescription medication versions of tofacitinib, used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. Manufactured by Pfizer, the medications were first believed to be relatively safe treatments for these conditions. However, Xeljanz users have begun to report dangerous, even life-threatening, side effects at alarming rates.

Two of the most dangerous Xeljanz side effects:

  • Pulmonary embolism (PE): A blood clot that often forms in the lungs.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): A blood clot that often forms in the legs.

Neither of these blood clot risks is listed on Xeljanz packaging. Users are taking their medications, not even aware that it could cause a blood clot, which may trigger a fatal cardiovascular event.

Oliver Bell Group is helping Xeljanz users discover their rights and fight for compensation after suffering a severe health condition like a blood clot. Backed by our extensive experiences and legal insight, we are not afraid to go toe-to-toe with Pfizer and other Big Pharma companies. Our attorneys are capable of working with clients all across the country, pursuing fair and maximized damages for them all.

Evidence of Xeljanz Hazards

In 2012, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered a safety study of Xeljanz after it became apparent that the drug could be causing cardiac failures and similar risks among users. It was determined that tofacitinib had a significantly higher chance of causing a pulmonary embolism than medications used in the control group. The FDA would not act again until February 2019, though, when it officially announced that Xeljanz had been linked to a higher incident of potentially fatal blood clots.

Following the FDA announcement, reports from users and medical professionals across the country began to build. There are at least 19 recorded deaths due to Xeljanz dangers, most of them caused by a pulmonary embolism or blood clot in the lungs. There are hundreds of other reports outlining severe yet nonfatal health consequences.
